Blame northern elite – Tsav

A retired Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has said the northern elite is to blame for the misadventure of Farouk Abdul-Mutallab, who was recently charged with terrorism in the United States of America.

Tsav said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja, on Sunday.

He said that the penchant among the elite to send their children and wards to schools in the Middle East was a growing source for concern.

The retired police chief described Abdul-Mutallab’s action as sad and condemnable.

He said, “It is sad indeed. This is the problem when our rich people here in the North send their children to study in Arab countries where discipline is lacking.

“These children are brought up in indiscipline and their parents (literally) worship them; because they are ‘religious,’ they do as they please. The result is what we are seeing today.

“If somebody is truly religious, he should have respect for human lives. Islam is a religion of peace and those who truly subscribe to it must embrace peace and respect the sanctity of human life.”

Tsav wondered why the suspect carried his discontent to a foreign land when there was enough to be sad and angry about in Nigeria.

He said, “If there is discontent, it should be here in Nigeria; we are suffering here, the gap between the rich and the poor is widening everyday.

  1. i personally think this is a misplaced comment. He was trying to prove a point, but was still making unnecessary statements.
